We talk about yoga as the gateway to freedom. By relinquishing attachment to objectives and judgement, we begin to find freedom from past, freedom from future, freedom from want, freedom from fear — freedom from mind. There’s no trick or “to do” list to check off to access this freedom, it’s already within you.
Try this… Think of something that you’ve been wanting to let go of. Find a leaf that has already fallen to the ground, and write down the thing that you’re relinquishing on the leaf. If you live near water, set the leaf down stream in a river or lake or pond. Watch it float away and feel peace. If you don’t live near water, find a few blades of already mown grass or a dandelion and hold them in your hand. Meditate on the thing you want to release, send the energy into the grass. When you’re ready, blow the blades into the air letting your energy carry the burden to the ground.
Then, give yourself permission to let go and practice “un” yoga with this “un do” list:
Unclench
Ungrasp
Unwind
Untangle
Unattach
Unthink
Unachieve
Unblock
Unburden
Unfurl
Unfurrow
Unclasp
Uncloak
Unclutter
Uncoil
Unconform
Undeceive
Undefine
Unyield
Unearth
Undo
What is your un?
Namaste.
