Most of us decided to take a yoga class because we wanted to work on our flexibility, complement our existing fitness regimen, or perhaps to manage stress better. What ends up happening, is we discover is that there’s so much more to yoga than physical fitness and a five minute savasana, it’s life changing. Yoga can be addictive, in a sense, for the peace and strength it brings to our lives. But, when was the last time you stopped to ask, “what can I give back go yoga?”
Karma yoga — often thought of altruism — is about achieving perfection in our actions. This year marks the fifth Yoga Aid World Challenge, a world-wide fundraising event. The goal? $1 million for charities around the world. The campaign wraps up with a yoga relay that takes place in cities across the globe on September 9th, in celebration of the funds participants raised for their designated charity.
Some of the charities participants can choose for their funds to go to include: Off the Mat Into the World, Yoga Gangsters, and Yoga Across America. The 2 hour celebratory yoga relay will feature some of the top yoga teachers from around the world. Teachers who were involved in past year’s Yoga Aid Challenges include: Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Baron Baptiste, Duncan Wong, Ana Forrest and MC Yogi, amongst many others.
Ready do some karma yoga, but not sure where to start? Why not register to raise funds with Yoga Aid.
I’ll see you on the mat September 9th!
Namaste.
